A rally will be held on Preston flag market, 21st September in support of the NHS 11:30 to 2:30 to petition and campaign around the town.

At 12-15pm the coffin of the NHS will be paraded around the flag market, please come dressed as doctors, nurses, cleaners, porters or ambulance driver.

3pm refreshments in the Blackhorse.

2nd September 2013: Defend the NHS in Manchester on 29th September. Join us and public sector unions at the rally planned to coincide with the Tory party conference. A march will take place leaving Liverpool Road (M3 4FP) at 11am marching to Whitworth Park. P&SR Trades Council has arranged a coach leaving Preston at 10am and returning from Manchester at 5pm. Pick up from the Adelphi Roundabout by Foster Building Car Park. Book your seats now (PDF document).

17th June 2013: Preston Social Forum and Uclan in association with the London Labour Film Festival present a screening on 27th June of:

BURN: One year on the front lines of the battle to save Detroit. A feature length documentary about Detroit, told through the eyes of Detroit firefighters, who are charged with the thankless task of saving a city that many have written off as dead.

This film will show in the Mitchell and Kenyon Cinema at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston. There will be short introductions from Steve Harman of Lancashire FBU and Bill Adams, Preston Social Forum Chair.

The event will begin with refreshments at 6:30pm. Screening and introductions 7:30pm-9:00pm **all timings are approximate

A suggested donation of £5 (£3 NUS / Unwaged) with proceeds going to The Fire Fighters Charity and the Detroit Fire Fighters.

15th April 2013. A reminder that both the day and the venue of future Trades Council Meetings has changed. Future meetings will take place on the third TUESDAY of every month. The venue has also changed to the Function Room upstairs at the Black Horse, 166 Friarsgate, Preston, PR1 2EJ. The next meeting takes place on Tuesday 16th April.
14th April 2013. Please distribute the poster for this years Workers’ Memorial Day Event in all workplaces and encourage members, friends and family to come along and support the event.
7th April 2013. Reminder that this years Preston Workers Memorial Day commemoration takes place on Saturday 27th April from 11:45 on Preston Plag Market.

Blackburn Workers Memorial Day Commemoration will take place at the WM Tree, 12:30pm on Friday 26th April. Also the big (indoor) Mayday Rally takes place on Wednesday 1st May in Blackburn library.

5th April 2013. PCS continues its campaign with industrial action this afternoon and Monday 8th over pay, pensions, job cuts & cuts to terms & conditions.

13th March 2013. The next Trades Council meeting takes place at 7pm, Stanley Arms on Wednesday 20th March.
12th March 2013. PCS workers to strike on budget day 20th March 2013. Over the four years of the pay freeze and cap, and higher pension contributions, PCS members stand to lose almost 20% of income. Ministers are also now trying to rip up basic working conditions, with hours, holidays, flexible working and sick pay all up for grabs. Thousands are threatened by redundancy and privatisation.

A rally will take place on Preston Flag Market from 11:00. More details to follow.

15th Jan 2013. UCU has arranged a public meeting at the University of Central Lancashire entitled: The Future of UCLan – University for the community or private profit. UCU report that the board of UCLan are pushing for privatisation of the learning provider.

The meeting will take place on 22nd January 2013 at 5pm in Greenbank Lecture Theatre. See the attached flyer for more details.
