Workers' Memorial Day 2010

Dear Colleague,

On May the 1st, 2010, we are again organising a memorial event in the Preston City Centre to remember all those who have died or suffered ill health and injury at work and to raise awareness of health and safety issues at work.

On the day we will be holding a service in the City Centre with senior multi-faith leaders and the Mayor of Preston, MP and guest speakers from other Unions.  We will be marching with banners to lay wreaths on the memorial plaque on the Cotton Workers Monument.  In the afternoon we will be having a social gathering with live music and refreshments.

We hope you will both advertise this event and support it financially.  To this end we would like to offer a speaker to attend one of your meetings to talk about workers memorial day.  Could you please also consider making a financial donation and place an advert in the programme, sending greetings and support for the event.

For further information please contact the committee at the address above.  Leaflets and posters will be available soon.

CWU Postal Workers Strike

Please support your local postal workers by observing all picket lines and showing your support.

The Communication Workers Union is in the biggest dispute with Royal Mail since the national strike of 2007. Local strikes have taken place across the UK since June and these have grown in frequency, geographical and functional spread over the summer.

15 October '09. An Early Day Motion (EDM) 2035 has been lodged by CWU supported MP, Geraldine Smith calling on Government to ensure Royal Mail responds positively to the CWU's proposals to end the dispute. You can view the EDM by clicking on the following link http://edmi.parliament.uk/EDMi/EDMDetails.aspx?EDMID=39264&SESSION=899
